Site of Memory. From Totality to Freedom.

The Czech Republic celebrated 30-year anniversary of the Velvet revolution in the last year 2019. Our school prepared a special program for all our students to remember this event. On that occasion teachers realized, that students have very little knowledge of the violation of the human rights and the oppression of the civic society during communism.

The main objective of the project is to show participants, how the life in non-democratic regime looked like. We aim to educate students in the modern history, intercultural competences and English language, as well as to introduce them our path to democracy. We also plan to raise student awareness of democratic principles, strengthen their personal skills and increase their self-motivation. Participants of the mobility will create projects in English language on topics from Czech modern history. Students might also consult the topics with teachers of History and also with teachers of English language.

The Norwegian partner is going to bring the fresh and original view on the Central Europe, especially the Czechia. Students from Norway will learn the Czech history which they only know from books, which is about the long path to the democracy. Although the both countries became independent at the beginning of 20th century, the course of events caused the path to democracy in Central Europe last longer.

We would like to be inspired by the Norwegian society in the way it follows democratic principles as they have long-term democratic tradition.
The impact of the project is that students will understand methods used by totalitarian regimes. They will also get better image of their parents´ life and appreciate the system of the democratic government.
